The NotWedding NYC

On April 10th, we participated in a super cool event called the NotWedding at the Wythe Hotel (which is so incredibly chic and perfect) in Brooklyn. As a wedding planner, I have attended many bridal shows but this was something special. The concept behind the NotWedding is an alternative to the traditional bridal show in that it has actual couples “getting married” complete with a ceremony, reception, bridal party, dinner and drinks! It is a lot of fun for brides-to-be as they mingle with wedding professionals, get inspired and have fun!

On top of all of that, it was a creative experience. As a wedding designer, I was given the task of designing three of the dinner tables based on an amazing inspiration board created by their creative director, Ashley Buzzy McHugh. For each NotWedding, Ashley creates an inspiration board filled with a color palette, photos, tastes, music and fashion. For me, this was absolutely the most fun! I stared and stared at this board trying to curate my looks for my tables. I pinned it to my wall, carried it in my bag and dreamt about it until it finally came to me. Here is a look at the inspiration board for the 2nd NYC NotWedding.

Now, here is my interpretation. I was assigned tables one, six and the head table and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. Each one is distinct and even with three other wedding designers, the room came together beautifully.

Can you believe that hand-embroidered constellation runner? I knew I had to have it and I was lucky enough to find Ashley Burk to bring it to life! It was definitely a show stopper and a big hit! Ashley will have the runners available in her Etsy store soon. Start following her now at Steady Hand Lettering.

The icing on the cake of this whole experience was that I was able to meet and connect with so many talented and sweet wedding professionals that I can’t wait to work together and be inspired in the future! You should totally check out the list of incredible vendors from the 2nd NYC Not Wedding here.

A special thanks to the awesome photographers, Jessica Oh Photography, Martina Micko Photo, and Tami Melissa Photography!

Bridal Shower Design with Bride to Be: Janice

With all the chaos and hustle and bustle of wedding planning, my favorite moments are the days when you get to stop and enjoy the process. Days such as bachelorette weekends, engagement parties, cake tasting, and bridal showers. This was no exception. We have been working with Janice and James for several months now honing the details and decor for their wedding day, which is happening in less than a week at the very cool Water Witch Club in Monmouth Hills. It is going to be a good one! I already can’t wait to share the photos of their wedding by the remarkable Pat Furey.

In the meantime, please feast your eyes on the colorful bridal shower hosted at Janice’s sister’s house last month. We created a color palette of poppy pinks and coral, hand painted paper flowers, and graphic black and white with copper accents. A big thank you to Mary Kate Moon for her always perfect handlettering and painting skills and Jessa of Love & Light Photographs for her talented work behind the lens.
